The climate of A Coruña is classified as temperate maritime and is basically governed by it's position on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. It does however display some characteristics of a Mediterranean climate with relatively dry, sunny summers. Autumn and winter are often unsettled and unpredictable with strong winds and abundant rainfall, coming from waves of depressions that sweep in from the Atlantic. These seasons are often overcast. Sping, in constrast is often rather pleasant. The ocean keeps temperatures mild, and frost and snow are somewhat rare during the year. Summer temperatures are warm rather than hot due to the cooling effect of the sea.
