Facilities
A restful rural hotel for all seasons: on winter days, curl up by a roaring chestnut fire in the cosy drawing-room with a book from the extensive library.
In summer stretch out on the rooftop terrace with its panoramic views and cooling plunge pool. Take a beer from the fridge. Sketch the rooftops. The views are medicine for the mind. The Moorish courtyard is a quiet leafy secluded corner where you can enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail.
Each romantic room has a king-size bed 1,80m x 2m, 100% cotton sheets, duvets for all seasons, pillow selection & ensuite bathroom. AC/heating, mini-bar, coffee/tea, sketch pads & much more.
Superior mountainview rooms have a balcony for sipping a late-night bottle of champagne, cookies, fluffy bathrobes, ecological olive oil products, many other little necessities and luxuries.
Walking
The secret Alto Genal valley is a paradise for walking holidays. Seven tiny villages are scattered like pearls around the valley. There are rough limestone crags offering exciting mountain walking, and sweet chestnut groves with a myriad of trails. Most walks involve a descent and ascent and vary from one to three hours, easy to moderate in difficulty.
Birding in the Alto Genal Valley
The Alto Genal Valley, an important area for European birds, is rich in breeding species (4 species of eagle) and an important feeding area for migrant birds of west and north Europe due to its proximity to the Straits of Gibraltar. Research shows its importance to breeding species under threat: Golden Eagle, Bonelli's Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Black Wheatear, Rock Thrush, Orphean Warbler, and Chough, all classified by the World Conservation Union (UICN) as under varying danger levels of extinction.
PETER JONES* will collect you from the hotel and take you out for a day naturewatching. His knowledge of the fauna/flora of the Alto Genal, and Serrania de Ronda in general, is vast and fascinating.
