Southern smooth snake

The Southern smooth snake (Coronella girondica – Culebra lisa meridional) is found throughout mainland Spain except for a narrow strip of La Coruña, Lugo, Asturias, Santander and the Basque Country. It is absent for the islands. This snake is tolerant of human activities and is favoured by the erosion caused by forest fires.
