My wife and I were hiking today in sierra nevada region, when out popped a snake, approximately 1 metre plus in length, moved very quickly. Colour was green going on brown, and had a fullish body. Any ideas anyone.
Many thanks.

Hi Stephen,
Not sure to be honest. Could be a southern smooth snake. Red mark seems strange to me but colour is incredibly varied in snakes
Cheers

Have seen a black snake with a small reddish mark on its head or top of neck, about three feet in length, in the Marbella area of Spain, its not very thick but did raise its head and hissed, any idea what it is?
