History of the house

Traditional farmhouse built more than 200 years ago in clay and slate and renovated to preserve the original structure.

Surrounding area and activities

"El Jiniebro" is set in a forest in a small valley at the foot of Puerto de Aguas Claras, which separates the property from Caserio de Jola and Portugal. The village of Caserio Aceña de la Borrega lies just 1000 m away. How to get here

This is an ideal base for Parque Natural Tajo Internacional and the Sierra de San Pedro and Parque Natural Serra de Sao Mamede.

  • Birdwatching: It is located in Valencia de Alcántara (Cáceres) in an important ZEPA (Area of Special Protection for Birds). Lots of birds can be seen from the house, including griffon vultures, falcons, short-toed eagles, golden eagles...
  • Hiking ( Sierra de San Pedro and Nature Reserve of Serra de Sao Mamede )
  • Cultural routes
  • Archeological remains (3 kilometres from the Dolmens Route, Roman towns, transfrontier roads and routes, old smugglers roads)
  • In Valencia de Alcántara: Roman and Paleochristian remains and the Gothic Jewish Quarter, with the Synagogue and the beautiful Church of Nuestra Señora de Rocamador .

Gastromony of the area

Caldereta (kid goat stew) and frite (lamb stew), embutidos (cured ham and sausages such as fariñera, cominera, patatera, panera and the Iberian cured ham and sausages) Desserts inlude Easter Cake (bollo de Pascua) is eaten today throughout the year, but in the past days was it given to you by you godmother as a present in Easter Sunday.

There are many reasonably priced restaurants in the area.
